The components of a centerfire primer are manufactured to extremely tight tolerances. The dimensions of the primer cup can be adjusted to within four digits of accuracy.

In order to ensure reliable ignition with a wide range of powder types, the priming mix has been tested from -20 degrees Fahrenheit to +150 degrees Fahrenheit.

The mass of each primer pellet is strictly regulated to within .01 gram.
